Fundado en 1992, Chiapas Photography <\/em>Project (CPP) <\/strong><\/a>(Proyecto Fotogr\u00e1fico Chiapas, CPP) es un programa de fotograf\u00eda ind\u00edgena con sede en Chiapas, M\u00e9xico, que imparte talleres de fotograf\u00eda con comunidades ind\u00edgenas y posee <\/span>un archivo de fotograf\u00eda ind\u00edgena.\u00a0<\/p>\n

El estado sure\u00f1o de Chiapas, donde casi un tercio de la poblaci\u00f3n es ind\u00edgena y se hablan unas 56 lenguas nativas diferentes, se ve afectado por formas de conflicto y violencia constantes e interrelacionadas. El levantamiento armado ind\u00edgena zapatista de 1994 contra las fuerzas estatales del gobierno y la crisis subsiguiente fueron consecuencia de los abusos de los derechos humanos contra las poblaciones ind\u00edgenas, la extrema privaci\u00f3n material, el racismo institucional y las revisiones de las leyes sobre tierras comunales.\u00a0 Siguieron a\u00f1os de tensi\u00f3n con estallidos de violencia y un proceso de paz estancado que cre\u00f3 divisiones entre comunidades ind\u00edgenas. Los m\u00e9todos contrainsurgentes del gobierno provocaron desapariciones y desplazamientos forzados de comunidades ind\u00edgenas<\/span>. El conflicto disminuy\u00f3 a finale de la d\u00e9cada de 2010, pero la violencia contin\u00faa afectando a las comunidades ind\u00edgenas de Chiapas. Los grupos paramilitares armados, las disputas por tierras, los desplazamientos forzados, los conflictos entre grupos y, m\u00e1s recientemente, la creciente presencia e influencia de los c\u00e1rteles de la droga han provocado un aumento de la violencia cotidiana y generalizada, las desapariciones y los tiroteos, lo que ha obligado a muchos a abandonar sus hogares.<\/p>\n

Durante m\u00e1s de 30 a\u00f1os, CPP<\/em> se ha dedicado a crear oportunidades de expresi\u00f3n art\u00edstica y cultural para los pueblos ind\u00edgenas mayas a trav\u00e9s de la fotograf\u00eda. Fundado por Sor Carlota Duarte, est\u00e1 dirigido y gestionado por personal ind\u00edgena con sede en San Crist\u00f3bal de Las Casas.<\/p>\n

Desde sus inicios, CPP<\/em> capacit\u00f3 a m\u00e1s de 500 fot\u00f3grafos ind\u00edgenas de diferentes or\u00edgenes \u00e9tnicos y ling\u00fc\u00edsticos en fotograf\u00eda tanto anal\u00f3gica como digital que re\u00fanen a muchas comunidades y grupos diferentes. De estos talleres surgen artistas ind\u00edgenas individuales que reciben apoyo para llevar a cabo sus propios proyectos especiales que celebran y documentan su herencia cultural y memoria hist\u00f3rica. Muchos de estos proyectos especiales se publican como libros y exposiciones. Adem\u00e1s, el CPP<\/em> estableci\u00f3 el Archivo Fotogr\u00e1fico Ind\u00edgena, un archivo de fotograf\u00eda ind\u00edgena que alberga m\u00e1s de 85.000 negativos tomados por fot\u00f3grafos formados por el CPP<\/em>. Las im\u00e1genes de los fot\u00f3grafos del CPP<\/em> han sido publicadas y exhibidas en sus comunidades y en todo el mundo. El archivo del proyecto se almacena en la Biblioteca de la Universidad de Stanford, donde est\u00e1 disponible para los investigadores y se complementa anualmente con nuevos materiales.<\/p>\n

Los fot\u00f3grafos del CPP<\/em> no abordan expl\u00edcitamente temas de paz y conflicto en sus im\u00e1genes. Sin embargo, al celebrar y compartir culturas ind\u00edgenas e idiomas, estos fot\u00f3grafos toman una decisi\u00f3n activa para fomentar culturas de paz al girar la c\u00e1mara para enfocarse en sus tradiciones e historia culturales ind\u00edgenas. La cultura ha sido catalogada y apropiada durante mucho tiempo por forasteros y es anunciada como una parte central de la identidad mexicana a pesar de la continua marginaci\u00f3n y empobrecimiento de las comunidades ind\u00edgenas. Tomando las riendas de la c\u00e1mara, el trabajo de estos fot\u00f3grafos ind\u00edgenas act\u00faa como una forma de resistencia que preserva y comunica su cultura en sus propios t\u00e9rminos.\u00a0<\/p>\n
